Ah ben voilα. ╟a devait arriver. Enfin une pochette qui ne soit ni navrante ni 
hilarante, ou plut⌠t ni les deux. IntΘrieur verdΓtre dΘcrΘpit figΘ un jour 
ensoleillΘ. TrΦs Nick Drake comme dΘcorum. Le joyeux luron Richman semble 
vouloir Ωtre pris au sΘrieux cette fois-ci. Bien lui en a pris.
 Parce qu'α maintenant 56 balais (et oui dΘjα), Jonathan Richman nous offre 
sans doute lα l'un de ses meilleurs albums. Because Her Beauty Is Raw And 
Wild, son 20Φme (et oui dΘjα), est un magnifique disque d'ΘtΘ spleenien α la 
formule dΘjα usitΘe : guitare aux effluves latines accompagnΘe par les percus 
chaloupΘes du fidΦle Tommy Larkins. Climat douillet et satinΘ dans lequel 
s'enamourent de ces chansons α la sincΘritΘ exacerbΘe et au chagrin 
silencieux. Une tristesse feutrΘe mais intense qui laisse Θclater sa peine en fin 
d'album : "As My Mother Lay Lying", Θmouvante nostalgie de l'humble fils au 
chevet de sa mΦre aimΘe que l'on Θcoute religieusement Θcume au bord de 
l'oeil, forcΘment.
 Avant τa, Jonathan Richman aura causΘ de l'amertume du passΘ sous 
d'autres formes : "Time Has Been Going By So Fast" et la reprise bien fichue 
de son "Old World" juvΘnile, occasion de constater que sa voix n'a 
miraculeusement pas changΘ d'une tonalitΘ depuis ses 20 ans. Et puis 
l'amour, toujours, bien s√r : "The Lovers Are Here And They're Full Of 
Sweat", "Here It Is" empruntΘ α Leonard Cohen, "This Romance Will Be 
Different For Me", et sa nouvelle tentative dans la langue de Trenet, "Le

The Beach Tonight" affriolΘ d'un piano gynmopΘdique. ╔trange comme un 
songe, un morceau atypique dans le rΘpertoire du barde bostonien.
